 Professor Laurens Katgerman received his degree in Applied Physics from the University of Groningen, The Netherlands. From 1992 to 2010 he was Professor of Metallurgy and Head of the Department of Light Metals Processing at Delft University of Technology.  Before joining Delft University he worked for more than 10 years in the aluminium industry (Alcoa, and Alcan International) in the USA and the UK. He is an elected member of the Koninklijke Hollandsche Maatschappij der Wetenschappen (Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities) since 1993. 

As of January 2010 Katgerman formerly retired from Delft University to continue as emeritus professor and director of his consultancy company K.A.T. (Katgerman Aluminium Technology). Laurens Katgerman has more than 200 ISI cited scientific publications and 4 patents. Currently Prof. Katgerman has a Hirsch (h) - factor 27.

With co-authors Prof. D.G. Eskin and Dr. M. Lalpoor, he was the recipient of the 2011 TMS Light Metals Subject Award.  From September 2011to September 2014, Prof. Katgerman was elected Vice-Chair of the COST Domain Committee Materials, Physics, and Nano Sciences (MPNS). In 2014 he has been conferred Fellow of the World Certification Institute.
